Petty Officer First Class Michael Gregory Keeping
Sailor Profile / June 5, 2014
Supply Technician, Canadian Forces Base Halifax
Under my supervisor’s direction, I am in charge of warehouse administration and look after 85 personnel in terms of delegation, supervision and problem solving.
I love everything about my job. A lot of this passion comes from the fact that it encompasses a diverse array of tasks. That’s what I like about the supply technician trade: I’m constantly being challenged and interested by new things.
I’m from Mississauga, near Toronto. I moved to Moncton, N.B., when I was younger and enrolled in a bilingual school. After high school, I went to community college and studied trades.
I didn’t know too much about the military when I first joined, but I loved the “work hard, play hard” mentality. I was looking for a challenge and being in the navy is a true testament to gratifying work; you see results in your labour.
One of the greatest rewards of navy life is traveling around the world, but there’s so much more than that, including job security, lifelong friendships and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through a free gym membership and 100 per cent medical coverage.
Being in the navy opens up a multitude of opportunities – you get the chance to protect your country and pursue your passions through a career that will constantly challenge you in the best way possible.
