NEPTUNE TRIDENT Role: Boatswain, Petty Officer of the Watch trainee
onboard HMCS Summerside
Previous Deployments: Work-ups with the HMCS Athabaskan and Air Work-ups with the HMCS Preserver. I was attached posted to HMCS Preserver to aid in their Air Work-ups by responding to emergencies for the air crew during simulated air emergencies to ensure the ship would be able to respond effectively in the event of a real time emergency. I also aided the crew of HMCS Athabascan during their Work-ups training where I was tasked to act as a member of manning pool where I would respond to all emergencies while underway.
Day job: I help maintain and operate the ships deck equipment, small arms as well as small boats. I also help with most deck evolutions such as Replenishment at Sea, Boat Operations, Tow exercises and act as watch on deck and helmsman during watch, while also training to become Petty Officer of the Watch Qualified.
Why did you join the CAF: I joined the Royal Canadian Navy to ensure I will always have a career that will push me past my comfort zone, travel to different countries, and keep my learning extensive and exciting.
Why you have stayed in the CAF: I’ve maintained my position in the Royal Canadian Navy to ensure I will always have an opportunity to experience new challenges and travel while developing my leadership abilities and enjoy experiences that would not have been presented to me in my civilian career.
Quote (General): During my time in the Canadian Armed Forces I intend to expand my knowledge and confidence in the boatswain trade while learning the duties of a Petty Officer of the Watch.
Quote (NEPTUNE TRIDENT) Experience: My experience of NEPTUNE TRIDENT thus far has been very exciting and challenging. I have enjoyed meeting new people on board as well as catching up with others I have known for years. I am excited to continue with my training and see what other new experiences I will have during this deployment.
