Today, we would like you to remember the crews lost during the Battle of the Atlantic.

They were ordinary Canadians, who answered Canada’s call to service during a time of peril and uncertainty.

The crew of His Majesty’s Canadian Ship Louisburg, and its captain Lieutenant-Commander Frank Campbell of Toronto, were performing their duty while escorting convoy FKM-8, when they were hit by German bombers and torpedoed by submarines.

He and several others were listed as ‘Missing, presumed killed in action’ following the attack on February 6, 1943 off the coast or Oran.

In total, 38 members of its crew were lost.
